RNA – In his Friday prayer sermon delivered to a large and fervent crowd of believers in the Iraqi holy city of Karbala’s Holy Shrine of Imam al-Husayn, Hujjat al-Islam Abdul-Mahdi al-Karbala’i referred to the American-imposed peace plan known as the “Deal of the Century” and said, “The religious authority of Iraq [Ayatollah al-Sistani] strongly condemns the plan and considers it outrageous.”
The representative of Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Ali al-Sistani in Karbala also reiterated that the Ayatollah al-Sistani supports the Palestinian people so that they can exercise their legitimate rights.
He called the objective of this plan is to legitimize the occupation of more Palestinian territory and he called on Arab and Islamic countries and all of the freedom-seeking people of the world to help the Palestinian people.
Hujjat al-Islam al-Karbala’i also condemned the use of violence against peaceful demonstrators in Iraq and at the same time, he emphasized that sAyatollah al-Sistani condemns abuses against security forces and public and personal property.
Citing four months of protests by the Iraqi people, he stated, “The continuation of this crisis and political, economic and security instability won’t benefit the country and the people’s future.”
Hujjat al-Islam al-Karbala’i said, “We need to accelerate the formation of a new government and prepare the way out of this crisis. The next government must be trusted by the people, have the ability to calm the situation and take the necessary steps to hold free and transparent elections as quickly as possible.”
Protests erupted in Iraq on October 1, 2019 against, what outraged public has specified as deep-rooted corruption and dire economic conditions.
Prime Minister Adil Abdul-Mahdi stepped down amid the rallies, but keeps functioning as interim premier. The parliament also acknowledged the popular dissatisfaction, introducing an electoral law that allows voters to pick individual candidates instead of choosing from party lists.
