RNA – Speaking during his jurisprudence class at Qom’s Grand Mosque, Grand Ayatollah Hoseyn Nouri-Hamadani responded to the pursual of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) by the Islamic Consultative Assembly and the attempts to accept this convention, saying, “The FATF was a Zionist, Arab and Western convention and this sinister triangle is in front of us in order to harm Iran.”
The revered source of emulation added that this convention has several articles and the enemies want to force Iran to accept the convention on the pretext of fighting and preventing terrorism, while they themselves are the source of terrorism and support the terrorists in the world.
He warned about the consequences of the acceptance of the FATF, saying, “Through this convention, they want to give authority to those who strongly oppose Iran and ally themselves with the Zionist regime.”
Ayatollah Nouri-Hamadani considered the examples of terrorism as based on the Western perspective as apart from the examples of the Islamic Republic of Iran and added, “According to the FATF, the child-murdering and criminal Zionist and Saudi regimes have committed many crimes which aren’t considered terrorism but they consider Hezbollah, the Islamic Resistance Axis and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as terrorists and want to limit them.”
Emphasizing that the FATF is a conspiracy and a plot to prevent the progress of Iran’s Islamic system of government and Islam, the teacher in the Islamic Seminary of Qom urged the Islamic Consultative Assembly to make decisions with vigilance and on the basis of the country’s national interests and not to allow the bitter experience of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) to be repeated again.
He said that some institutions and apparatus such as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs are in favour of the convention and have called for its approval but they must be vigilant and pay attention to the enemies’ plots and added, “The Islamic Seminary must be awake and we declare that we oppose the FATF with all our strength and this convention must not be signed.”
Ayatollah Nouri-Hamadani also called for the Islamic Seminary and for seminarians to give attention to social and political issues and stressed, “The Islamic Revolution was established on the basis of Islam and the Islamic Seminary and seminarians are the harbingers of Islam, therefore, they cannot be indifferent.”
The FATF assesses countries’ compliance with recommendations to combat money laundering and financing terrorism.
The Europeans are pressuring Iran to join FATF, saying that its banking system could become thoroughly isolated from the global financial system if it did not.
Opponents of the FATF say its approval could entangle Iran in endless disputes followed by international sanctions.
