RNA – Speaking to Iraqi reporters, Hujjat al-Islam Abdul-Mahdi al-Karbala’i, the representative of Ayatollah Sayyid Ali al-Sistani, said, “Iraqi citizens must go to the polls to create change in their country.”
“We must do this so that we do not feel despair over the situation of the government institutions,” he added.
Hujjat al-Islam al-Karbala’i stressed that the process of Iraq’s election must be corrected so that the Iraqi citizens vote, elect suitable candidates and so that their vote is completely effective on changing the political future of their country.
“We must not be in a state of despair and get disappointed over the situation facing this country and of getting recovered. Hope remains. Ayatollah al-Sistani has also stressed that there isn’t any alternative to Iraq’s election,” he added.
People in Iraq go to polls to elect a new parliament and new prime minister in the first national election since the country declared complete victory over the terrorist Daesh group.
Voting stations opened in Baghdad and other cities at 7:00 a.m. local time (0400 GMT) on Saturday and will close at 6:00 p.m. local time (1500 GMT).
