Najaf Friday Prayer Leader:
Rasa – Hujjat al-Islam al-Nu’mani noted that the people and the Iraqi constitution will not allow the Ba’ath party’s return to power.
RNA – During his Friday prayer sermon delivered to a large and fervent crowd of believers in the Iraqi city of Najaf’s al-Fatimiyah Husayniyah, Hujjat al-Islam Khalid al-Nu’mani offered his congratulations to the people on the anniversary of the establishment of the Iraqi army, saying, “The Iraqi army plays a very important role in serving the people and the liberating the territory of this country from the Daesh Takfiri terrorist phenomenon.”
The threat of war with newly formed Republic of Turkey, which claimed the Ottoman vilayet of Mosul as part of their country, led the British to form the Iraqi Army on 6 January 1921.
The senior Iraqi Shi’ah cleric added that the Iraqi government, the national coalition and the constitution emphasized on the implementation of parliamentary elections on their specified date.
Iraq’s 2018 parliamentary and provincial elections will be held on May 12, just prior to the start of the holy month of Ramadan.
Hujjat al-Islam al-Nu’mani said, “The Iraqi constitution and people strongly condemn the any sort of effort by the United States and the Arab countries and some of their affiliates inside the country to return the Ba’ath party to power in the government.”
According to several Arab news sources, meetings have been held between exiled members of the banned Iraqi Ba’ath Party and officials from the Israeli and Saudi regimes.
While the Iraqi Ba’ath Party, the Arab supremacist organisation headed by Saddam Hussein until 2003, is banned by the Iraqi constitution, some descendant organisations are still legally active in the country’s political scene.
In another part of the Friday prayer sermon, he complained about the state of drinking water in central and southern governorates, and urged the government to address this matter as soon as possible.
Hujjat al-Islam al-Nu’mani strongly responded to the anniversary of the founding of Baha’ism in Baghdad and said, “There is no such religion in the Iraqi constitution and Baha’ism is not considered one of the divine religions.”
