Rasa - The clashes broke out as pro-NYPD groups rallied in the Bay Ridge area of Brooklyn. The BLM counter protest began a mile away on 86th Street but it wasn’t long before the two sides came to blows, RT said.
Several counter protesters reportedly burned a Blue Lives Matter T-shirt, hat and sign as well as an American flag, while at least one police officer was injured.
Councilman Justin Brannan said he was “disturbed” by the violence and would be meeting with the local police precinct on Monday.
“The blame falls squarely at the feet of the elected officials and leaders who refused to take responsibility for the vitriol and hatred displayed at yesterday’s protest,” he said.
There were multiple outbreaks of violence across New York City at the weekend.
These were the latest in a wave of anti-racism protests, which broke out after the police killing of George Floyd, an African American in Minneapolis, Minnesota on May 25.
His death unleashed protests in US cities against police brutality and for racial justice in the country.
President Donald Trump threatened to deploy the military into the streets to put down the protests as demonstrators clamored for an end to police brutality.
