RNA - The complaint is focused on the US Air Force's massive Ramstein Base in Western Germany, believed to host a satellite relay station used to control American drones in the skies over Africa and the Middle East.
"The control signals for the drone attack [that assassinated Gen. Soleimani] can only have been transmitted via a satellite relay station on German territory, the US airbase in Ramstein," Die Linke's MP Alexander Neu said in a statement.
A copy of the criminal complaint Neu posted to his website targets Merkel, Foreign Minister Heiko Maas, Defence Minister Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer, Interior Minister Horst Seehofer and "other members of the federal government".
The Left accuses Merkel and her ministers of "abetting through negligence" General Soleimani's assassination.
"We cannot continue to accept that the federal government itself breaks international law by enabling and supporting the illegal US drone war," Neu added.
In early January, the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Qods Force Commander was assassinated in a US drone strike near Baghdad International Airport. The air raid also martyred Deputy Commander of Iraq's Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, five Iranian as well as five Iraqi militaries.
The Pentagon's operation brought the United States and Iran to the brink of war, with Tehran retaliating by launching missiles at military bases in Iraq housing American troops, wounding at least 110 American military servicemen and warning of further strikes against the Unted States. Iranian officials have branded the assassination an “act of international terrorism”.
Washinton's assassination operation has also has drawn a harsh rebuke from Baghdad, prompting the Iraqi Parliament to pass a resolution ordering American forces to leave the country.
