Commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps Major General Hossein Salami appointed Brigadier General Seyed Mohammad Hejazi as the new deputy commander of the IRGC Qods Force.

RNA - General Hejazi was introduced as Qods Force Deputy Commander by General Salami in a ceremony held at the General Staff of the IRGC in Tehran on Monday.

General Hejazi had also earlier served as the deputy commander of Qods Force till the end of the Iran-Iraq war and Basij commander for ten years.

According to Fars News Agency, Brigadier General Esmayeel Qa'ani, the former deputy of the IRGC Qods Force, was appointed as the Qods Force commander after Lieutenant General Qassem Soleimani was assassinated by the US in a drone strike at Iraq's Baghdad International Airport on January 3.

The airstrike also martyred Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, deputy commander of Iraq's Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF), or Hashad al-Shaabi. The two were martyred in an American airstrike that targeted their vehicle on the road to the airport.

Five Iranian and five Iraqi militaries were martyred by missiles fired by the US drone at Baghdad International Airport.
