RNA - The situation inside Mosul appears to be intensifying as the Iraqi troops are entering the city from the Eastern edge and according to local sources, five ISIL leaders, including the head of the city's prisons, were shot dead by unidentified gunmen near a local market, BAS News reported.
Local sources also noted that unknown gunmen killed four other ISIL militants near their base at the al-Shaarein outdoor market in Western Mosul.
Mosul has been the ISIL stronghold for more than two years, and according to intelligence information, there are up to 5,000 ISIL militants that may fiercely resist the Iraqi forces while entering the city.
Since the offensive on Mosul began on October 17, the militants have carried out mass executions of civilians, lit toxic sulfur, oil fires and used civilians as human shields to ward off air strikes and impede the process of liberation.
