Ex-IRGC Commander:
Former Commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Mohsen Rezayee stressed Iran's high defense capabilities, saying that the US fears any war against the country as any such military conflict will set fire to the entire region.

RNA - Rezayee, also the secretary of Iran's Expediency Council (EC), warned on Saturday that any war against Iran would not stop at the Islamic Republic's borders, and it would involves all countries in the entire Middle East region.

“(US President Donald) Trump and his team have recently said they want to economically pressure Iran and are not seeking any military confrontation with the country,” he said.

“This is because they cannot (enter a war with Iran),” Rezayee said, adding, “They would if they could.”

The rhetoric and threats of a war against Iran have ebbed because Trump and his administration are well aware of Iran’s defense power and military achievements, and they know that any war on Iran will not be confined to Iran's borders, he said.

He also condemned the United States for imposing fresh sanctions on the country’s petrochemical industry, saying that the US policy of maximum pressure, which has repeatedly been tested by former presidents, is doomed to failure.

His remarks came after Top Military Aide to the Iranian Supreme Leader Major General Yahya Rahim Safavi underscored his country's high deterrence power, warning enemies of an immediate crushing response in case of any aggression.

"We are not the starter of any war and aggression against any country and this has several times been stated by Supreme Leader (Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei who is also commander-in-chief of the Iranian Armed Forces). But if enemies, including the Zionists or the Americans, make a move against us at any level, we have a strong defense and deterrence power too and will hit unimaginable reciprocal blows on them and their interests and military bases," General Rahim Safavi told FNA on Saturday.

He stressed that Iran was stronger than all its 15 neighbors, except Russia, in the military field, and said Tehran and Moscow were coordinated in anti-terrorism fight in Syria and were neighbors via the sea.

General Rahim Safavi explained that in case of an enemy aggression against Iran, "we will inflict the most crushing and most surprising strikes on them not just in areas around the country but also beyond in the seas", adding that this was the strategy devised by Ayatollah Khamenei for the Armed Forces.
