According to a new study by the United Nations Relief and Works Agency, UNRWA, infant mortality is decreasing in most parts of the world, but for the last decade, it has not declined in Gaza.

RNA - Out of every 1000 live births, 22.7 will die. The reason is Israel’s illegal blockade that denies Gaza’s health sector drugs, supplies, and infection prevention material. According to the director of UNRWA’s health department, the barometer of an entire population’s health is infant mortality.

In view of this, Muslim Hands has made it its goal to dedicate the proceeds of this winter’s Walk for Gaza to the infants of the besieged enclave. Despite the weather, the turnout was good. There were those who have been attending for years and many newcomers as well.

According to Press TV, this year, Muslim Hands raised money to train over 100 doctors, nurses, and midwives across six hospitals in Gaza to better equip them to reduce infant mortality rates. This training will improve neonatal life support and infection control.

For the 12th year in a row, hundreds of people have walked for Gaza. This time, it was for the children, in the hope that one day, children everywhere will have an equal opportunity to live and flourish.
