This is while the Afghan government has recently expanded its efforts to launch direct peace talks with the Taliban militant group in order to put an end to the conflict in the country and save more civilian lives, but officials believe obstacles prevent that from happening.
The United States and its allies invaded Afghanistan in 2001 under the pretext of fighting terrorists. 18 years after the invasion and the continued US military presence in Afghanistan has failed either to eliminate the militant group or bring lasting peace to the country.
