Russia's Republic of Chechnya unveiled on Friday a new mosque in the town of Shali which the government says is Europe's largest.

RNA - The "Pride of Muslims" mosque, decorated inside and out with white Greek marble, with paintings made of pure gold and a huge lotus-shaped chandelier with Swarovski crystals will be able to hold up to 30,000 people, a curator of mosque construction was quoted as saying by the RIA news agency.

The mosque took seven years to build.

During the opening ceremony, Chechen President Ramsan Kadyrov asked his people to build a small mosque in his honor after his death.
