RNA - “Actually this announcement is not very surprising. It is basically stating what has been the policy of the United States government and administration since the beginning of the [Islamic] Revolution. In other words, what this announcement states is what America has been doing and the position it has been taking towards the Revolution Guards Corps since the beginning of the Revolution,” Sam Mahdi Torabi, director of Risalat Strategic Studies Institution, told Press TV in an interview on Monday.
“The good thing is that this administration that has come to power in the US …, contrary to the other administrations, actually states the reality of what America is and does not try to mask the behavior of America in nice rhetoric or the language of diplomacy or the language of being friend,” he added.
The administration of US President Donald Trump designated the IRGC as a foreign terrorist organization on Monday through an official statement.
The designation decision, formally under the State Department's purview, was made as part of the White House's increasingly aggressive strategy towards Iran.
The US had already blacklisted dozens of entities and individuals affiliated with the IRGC, but not the entire force.
The chief commander of the IRGC warned on Sunday that the elite force will put reciprocal action against the US forces on its agenda if Washington labels it as a “terrorist organization.”
