Russian satellites’ images uncovered new burial sites at the Rukban refugee camp in Syria, located on the US-controlled territory, with the overall number of graves reaching 700, the Russian and Syrian inter-agency coordination headquarters said in a joint statement on Tuesday.
"We have found three more illegal cemeteries located at the camp in direct proximity to the houses and water points, which are another source of spreading infectious diseases. Nearly 700 graves have been found in the uncovered burial sites," the statement noted, TASS reported.
It recalled that earlier a cemetery with at least 300 graves had been uncovered at the camp.
"In fact, the real situation could be even worse because several bodies of Syrians who died at the Rukban camp may have been buried in many graves," It stressed, noting that the humanitarian situation at the camp continues deteriorating.
The United States is still hindering Russian and Syrian efforts on improving the situation of refugees. The Defense Ministry has once again called on the US and the United States to review their positions on the camp, noting that the Syrian authorities are ready to evacuate citizens and bring them back to their places of permanent residence.
The Rukban refugee camp emerged on the Syrian-Jordanian border in 2014 after Amman closed its border due to security and economic concerns. The area, which is controlled by illegal armed groups, is facing a severe humanitarian crisis.
Idlib
Rifts are widening among Tahrir al-Sham al-Hay'at terrorists over the implementation of the Sochi Agreement in Idlib province, media reports said Tuesday.
"Tahrir al-Sham has claimed that it is fully in charge of security of the demilitarized zone and prevented the Turkish Army from patrolling the region," the Arabic-language al-Watan newspaper quoted sources close to the Ankara-backed National Liberation Front (NFL) as saying.
According to Fars News Agancy, the sources noted that the Turkish Army's patrolling has been suspended for the coming days in order to prepare the grounds for resolving the rising disputes among Tahrir al-Sham militants.
They said that Tahrir al-Sham believes that the Turkish Army patrols in the demilitarized zone will serve as a pretext for future patrols by the Russian troops in the outskirts of the region to be followed by the implementation of others parts of the Sochi Agreement, while the terrorist group is standing tough against its implementation.
Some analysts also pointed to Ankara's efforts to show the extent of Tahrir al-Sham's power in Northern Syria, and said the move by Tahrir al-Sham has probably taken place with the green light of Turkey or the US.
Russia had demanded that Turkey do more to tackle hardcore fighters in Syria's Idlib province and fulfill promises it made as part of a deal with Moscow last year.
