RNA – Major General Imad al-Zuhayri, the commander of the Samarra Operations Command, announced the deaths of three Daesh Takfiri terrorists in an operation in the Iraqi city, which is located 125 kilometres north of the capital, Baghdad.
In a statement, al-Zuhayri said, “According to a detailed intelligence report from the Intelligence and Security Command division, the Iraqi Air Force carried out operations in the towns of al-Kush and al-Awadah districts, north of Samarra, which resulted in the deaths of three terrorists. Their vehicle was also destroyed.”
The statement said noted the operation was carried out within the framework of the security plan for the martyrdom ceremony of the tenth Infallible Imam, Imam Ali ibn Muhammad al-Hadi, who is buried in the al-Askariyayn Mosque in Samarra.
The Popular Mobilization Forces and the federal police began a pre-emptive operation to inspect the western areas of Samarra to secure the region in the days prior to the commemoration of the martyrdom ceremony of Imam al-Hadi in Samarra, which will be held on 3 Rajab (10 March).
Millions of pilgrims are preparing to go to the holy city of Samarra to commemorate the anniversary of the martyrdom of Imam al-Hadi, while security forces and services were prepared for the ceremony.
In December 2017, Iraq declared full liberation of its territories from Daesh after security forces and the Popular Mobilization Forces, backed by an anti-Daesh international coalition, recaptured all areas once seized by the extremist group.
Daesh remnants, however, have since melted in urban areas or resorted to deserts and rugged areas as safe havens, carrying out guerilla attacks from time to time against security forces and civilians.
