RNA - Kevin Barrett, an author, journalist and radio host with a Ph.D. in Islamic and Arabic Studies, made the remarks in an interview.
On Monday, Trump said that Representative Ilhan Omar's comments, which accused pro-Israel lawmakers of showing “allegiance to a foreign country,” were “a dark day for Israel!”
“Representative Ilhan Omar is again under fire for her terrible comments concerning Israel,” he tweeted.
Meanwhile, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and senior Democrats plan to take floor action against Omar following her statements against Israeli influence in the US political system.
Democratic leaders are reportedly "still debating" whether to include Omar by name in the resolution which will be presented to the House on Wednesday, Politico reported.
The resolution will mark the second public rebuke of Omar by her fellow Democrat representatives after an initial outcry over her tweets criticizing the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) for its role in shaping US policy earlier last month.
Facing a fierce backlash from Republicans and Democrats for her allegedly "anti-Semitic" comments, Omar "unequivocally" apologized for her earlier statements and deleted them.
According to Press TV, Dr. Barrett said, “Trump knows what he was talking about. He knows the power of the Jewish/Zionist lobby in the United States which owns virtually the entire mainstream media and gives about half of what are euphemistically known as campaign contributions which is actually bribes to purchase absolute and undivided loyalty to Israel among virtually all of America’s elected representatives.”
“So yes in a sense it’s a dark day for Israel when Ilhan Omar speaks the truth about these matters, indeed understates the truth about these matters,” he stated.
“Trump earlier called Representative Omar to resign after she said that Israel’s power is all about the Benjamin, meaning all about 100 dollar bill, that’s the money power and we were told that was anti-Semite trope. But in fact it’s true. Jews are by far the richest American ethnic group with almost half of Jews in America earning six-figure income, and about half of America’s billionaires are Jewish. Almost all of them have some degree of loyalty to Israel,” he noted.
