RNA – An academic conference entitled “Critique of the Doubts Regarding Tawassul [intercession],” which is part of a series of conferences entitled “Criticism and Recognition of Salafism,” was held by the Centre of the Jurisprudence of the Pure Imams in Qom.
The main speaker of the meeting was Hujjat al-Islam Sayyed Mahdi Alizadeh-Mousavi, the chairman of the Department of Wahhabi Studies of the Islamic Propaganda Office of the Islamic Seminary of Qom. The academic secretary of the conference was Hujjat al-Islam Ebrahim Rezaei, a researcher at the Centre of the Jurisprudence of the Pure Imams.
Hujjat al-Islam Alizadeh-Mousavi stressed, “Today, contemporary Salafism has five important challenges, one is the ambiguity in the concept of Salafism, that is, there is no precise definition of contemporary Salafism among these movements. The second point is the difference between the principles of Salafism and the third challenge is the crisis of the legitimacy of Salafism. That is, if it previously was attacked in the form of doubts, today the principle of Salafism is attacked, questioned, criticized and examined.”
The teacher in the Islamic Seminary and university continued, “Because the different tendencies of Salafism are not a coherent unit and have different subdivisions that differ from each other, they must be known very precisely and fully understood.”
“The fifth challenge is the contradiction between Salafism and modernism,” he said, adding, “In general, our mission as seminarians is to move toward the field of research in Salafism in order to develop appropriate solutions and strategies against Salafism.”
Hujjat al-Islam Alizadeh-Mousavi emphasized that comprehensive and complete recognition of Takfiri movements is necessary and essential and added, “One of the most important arenas is understanding and criticizing the doubts of Salafism, which is why this conference was established.”
