A Palestinian from the Gaza Strip died on Wednesday after serving 28 years in Israeli prison, four of which he spent in solitary confinement, apparently of medical negligence, according to the Prisoners Commission.

RNA - It said Faris Baroud, 51, from Shati refugee camp, died shortly after he was transferred from Rimon prison in the South of Israel to an Israeli hospital following deterioration in his health, WAFA reported.

Baroud, who was arrested in March 1991 and sentenced to life in prison plus 35 years for killing a settler, has complained of stomach problems and asthma and has underwent surgery last year to remove part of his kidney.

He was supposed to have been released in the prisoners' exchange with Israel in 2013, which Israel has reneged on.

The Prisoners Commission held the Israel Prison Services responsible for his death due to medical negligence.

It added that 60 prisoners have died while in detention due to medical negligence since the 1967 Israeli occupation.
