A US war against Iran would threaten American security and end the presidency of Donald Trump and face stiff resistance from the US public, says an American political analyst.

RNA - “I don’t think Trump is going to be posturing against Iran; I don’t think he’s going to be waging conflicts against Iran because it would end his presidency, if not his life” said Scott Bennett, a former US military psychological warfare officer.

“It could also end the United States of America because if Iran was attacked by the United States or Israel in any sort of a joint venture, then you would have Russia and China stepping in to side and defend Iran as well,” Bennett told Press TV.

“Russia and China recognize that if Iran was attacked, then they would be the next nations on the agenda,” he added.

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said Tuesday that the United States would continue to cooperate with Israel over Syria and in countering Iran in the Middle East.

Pompeo made the remarks as he met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in the Brazilian capital Brasilia on Tuesday.

“The counter-ISIS (Daesh) campaign continues, our efforts to counter Iranian aggression continue and our commitment to Middle East stability and the protection of Israel continues in the same way it did before that decision was made,” he said.

Trump announced his decision to withdraw the US troops from Syria on December 19, saying that Daesh had been defeated. The next day Trump proclaimed that US troops cannot stay in Syria "forever.”

His unexpected announcement shocked top US officials and allies.

The US deployed troops and equipment to Syria in 2014 as part of what it claims to be the coalition to defeat Daesh (ISIL) terrorists, who are widely reported to be financed by Saudi Arabia and partially trained and protected by American forces in Syria to support the terror campaign against the Syrian government and ordinary citizens.
