Iranian President Hassan Rouhani forwarded a message of condolences to his Indonesian counterpart, offering sympathy to the people and government of the country over the tragic loss of hundreds of lives in Sunda Strait tsunami.

RNA - “The saddening news of tsunami in Sunda Strait that claimed hundreds of lives of Indonesian citizens, injuring hundreds more, caused great grief and deep sorrow,” wrote President Rouhani.

“I hereby offer the sincerest condolences of the people and government of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Your Excellency and the Indonesian government and nation, pray for the dead and wish their bereaved families patience.”

Iran and Indonesia, as two major Muslim countries, are enjoying very close ties, and, in a related front, Jakarta’s Ambassador to Tehran Octaviano Alimuddin said last week that Indonesia is determined to bolster and broaden its all-out relations with Iran, especially in the fields of politics and economy.

A volcano eruption triggered a tsunami which hit Indonesia’s Sunda Strait on Saturday night, claiming the lives of more than 280 and injuring more than 1,000 people.
