Rasa - It is important that a US-drafted resolution against the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas did not pass at the United Nations General Assembly, says an academic, adding that it is Israel who should be condemned for the occupation of Palestinian territory rather than Hamas.

RNA - “The most important issue should be stated that it is Israel who should be condemned for its continued occupation of Palestinian land for more than half a century now and it is Israel who should be condemned for its settlement expansion in the West Bank and East Jerusalem instead of condemning the Palestinians and the Palestinian resistance groups like Hamas who are fighting this Israeli occupation, fighting against Israeli settlement expansion and fighting for their freedom and self-determination,” Mukhaimer Abu Saada, professor at al-Azhar University in an interview on Friday.

A US-sponsored draft resolution seeking to condemn Hamas at the United Nations General Assembly has failed to gain a majority vote.

According to Press TV, the resolution attempted to condemn Hamas for carrying out rocket attacks against Israel and using "airborne incendiary devices" against Israelis living in occupied Palestinian lands.

The resolution came weeks after Hamas and other Palestinian resistance groups fired over 400 rockets into Israel during a two-day flare-up of violence following a botched Israeli attack against a Hamas commander.
