RNA - It reiterated in a statement that Palestinian children must enjoy the protections and opportunities they are entitled to, WAFA reported.
They should not be exposed to a life of threats and lack of security under a colonial occupation, it said.
“Generations of Palestinian children have been subjected to terror, insecurity, and injustice under the prolonged Israeli colonial occupation that started fifty-one years ago,” the statement added.
“In 2018 alone, Israeli occupation forces killed 52 Palestinian children and detained over 900 Palestinian children; today 270 Palestinian children languish in Israeli detention centers in breach of international law. They are subjected to torture methods, solitary confinement, and other inhumane practices under the illegal Israeli juvenile military system. Israeli occupying forces have also affected more than 80,279 Palestinian children in their pursuit of education by restriction of movement, forced entry of schoolyards and the use of tear gas on school properties,” it noted.
The foreign ministry stressed that “the international community must ensure respect of international law and treaties, and must uphold its responsibilities towards Palestinian children by holding Israel, the occupying power, accountable for its illegal actions. On this solemn date, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates reiterates that the State of Palestine will spare no effort and use all available peaceful and legal mechanisms to ensure that Palestinian children's rights to life, health, education, and play are safeguarded and respected”.
