Rasa - In a 151-2 vote, the UN General Assembly has voted to call for the end of the Israeli occupation of the Golan Heights, and calls for the territory to be returned to Syria. Israel, as usual, voted against the resolution, and the US followed suit.

RNA - The US vote is seen as a prelude to the White House endorsement of the annexation of Golan – just as the way the US in yet another move to appease Israel and weaponize humanitarian aid, earlier this year cut more than $200 million in aid to the Palestinians.

The decision came after the Palestinian leadership angered the White House by boycotting its so-called peace efforts and after President Donald Trump recognized Jerusalem Al-Quds as Israel’s capital and moved the embassy there, reversing decades of US policy. The move was condemned by the international community, including the United Nations.

As is often the case, by voting no to the UN call for the end of the Israeli occupation of Golan Heights and by cutting aid to Palestine, it is obvious that the pro-Israel US policy is in no way designed to help those who want peace and security in the Holy Land or the region. This colonialist policy also is in no way intended to help American standing in the region or in the world at large. It only helps Israel to shrug off its responsibility as an occupier and usurper. This makes the Trump White House complicit in Israeli crimes and atrocities in occupied Palestine.

Without question, the main purpose of the US decision is not to promote peace in the Middle East. It is designed to prolong the occupation amid lecturing the Arabs about the alleged dangers of Iran. It’s also a clear rebuff to international law and campaign to boycott Israel, as it endorses the occupation and covers up the crimes of the occupation.

Whatever happened to the struggle against Israeli colonization, occupation and apartheid? The BDS (Boycott-Divestment-Sanction) is a rights-based strategy to be pursued until Israel meets its obligation to recognize the Palestinian people's inalienable right to self-determination and complies with the requirements of international law to leave the Syrian Golan Heights. To that end, all UN member states should also get on board.

Lest we forget, Israel continues to occupy the Golan heights, seized from Syria in 1967, due to issues of water control - although the occupation is also about maintaining high ground in case of future conflicts. The same could be said about the ongoing war in Syria, as a couple of opportunistic neighbors and scant resources have led to further violence against the Arab country.

Within this framework, regional nations and organizations such as the Arab League should never admit Tel Aviv as a partner/member, as it will keep the Israeli war machine going, especially seeing that it has no intention of ending the occupation or the oppression and suffering of the Palestinian people.

According to Fars News Agancy, the world community should further support the international campaign to boycott Israeli goods and companies, as well as universities and academic centers that support the usurper regime culturally, scientifically and financially. It’s the only way to help bring change to the Middle East.

Here, it is useless to attempt to reason the Trump White House out of a thing they are never reasoned into. Every discussion which is made from a pro-Israel or an egoistic standpoint is corrupted from the start and cannot yield an absolutely sure conclusion. They put their own interests first and twist every argument, word, even historic fact to suit their interests at the UN.

That’s why it is becoming ever harder for the world body to discuss any issue about Israel and its crimes against humanity in occupied Palestine or the Golan Heights without facing accusations of bias and US veto. What else could you possibly expect from a country that is intent on upholding the standards of imperial hubris, has a sordid vision of its own, and completely ignores history and reality on the ground in occupied Palestine.

The United States has consistently supported - and paid for - Israel’s apartheid wall, occupation of Golan Heights, warmongering efforts, and illegal settlements, in large part due to the tireless lobbying of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee and the fact that they want to prolong war and bloodshed in the Middle East.
