Rasa - Saudi Arabia is going to get away with the disappearance of dissident journalist Jamal Khashoggi, says a political analyst, adding that the joint committee between Riyadh and Ankara to probe the case is aimed at covering up the whole issue.

RNA - “The Saudis, even with the developments of today, it seems- it is my personal point of view- that they are going to get away with this even with the Turks because with the formation of this so-called committee, the joint committee between the Turks and the Saudis. So this is one way or another to just cover up the whole thing, to try to find a way out, to try to find a scapegoat or whatever,” Mohammad Obaid said in an interview on Friday.

“Unfortunately we have seen throughout the years the unjust powers just supporting the tyrants throughout the word. We have never seen anyone of them taking a conscience stance and self-criticizing or reversing their wrong policies that have been causing wars and damage throughout the world … So I am not that optimistic to expect anything different this time,” he added.

Khashoggi, a Virginia-based critic of bin Salman’s policies, entered the Saudi consulate in Istanbul, Turkey, last week for some paperwork regarding his divorce, but he never exited the mission.

News of his disappearance broke out after Khashoggi’s Turkish fiancée, who was waiting outside the diplomatic building, called the police.

The Saudi dissident’s fate remains shrouded in mystery, with several reports indicating that he has been either killed or kidnapped at the consulate by 15 Saudi operatives -- among them bin Salman’s elite close protection unit -- who had arrived in Istanbul on the same day only to leave Turkish soil hours later.
