RNA - Dehqani denounced the anti-Quds decision made by US President Donald Trump and warned about further escalation of tensions in the Middle East with Trump's order of relocating US embassy from Tel-Aviv to Jerusalem Al-Quds.
The Iranian senior diplomat made the remarks on Sunday while addressing a meeting of the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Committee on Palestine on the sidelines of the 73rd session of the UN General Assembly.
Here comes the full text of Dehqani’s address at the meeting:
At the outset, I would like to express my gratitude for participating in this important meeting which is a manifestation of the ever-increasing significance of question of Palestine for Islamic Ummah.
Distinguished Colleagues,
For the past 70 years, the question of Palestine has not only been an Islamic-Arabic issue, but one of the most complicated political and legal issues at the regional and international levels. During this time, the people of Palestine have experienced nothing but oppression, displacement, misery and occupation of their lands. They have always been deprived of their basic and inalienable rights. This year, which marks 70 years since the tragic Nakba of the Palestinian people in 1948, the military aggression against peaceful demonstration of Palestinian civilian in Gaza, have led to the death of more 170 martyrs and the injury of thousands of Palestinian citizens.
While strongly condemning the continued crimes and atrocities committed by the Israeli regime against the innocent Palestinians, The Islamic Republic of Iran, reaffirms its abiding solidarity with the brave Palestinian peoples and its unwavering support for their legitimate struggle for justice, dignity, and exercise of their inalienable rights, including to self-determination and freedom in their independent State of Palestine, with Al-Quds as its capital.
We firmly reject the decision of the president of the US on Al-Quds, issued on 6th December, 2017, and reject all its concomitant outcome, including USA action to relocate its embassy to Al-Quds, a measure roundly condemned by international laws and conventions, and UN resolutions, which they consider as a naked and immoral aggression on the rights of the Palestinian people as well as a provocative action that is apt to push the region into further violence and anarchy. In this regard, the Government of the United States should be totally responsible for the consequences of its illegal steps and its illegitimate standing by the side of the occupying authority and providing the means for it to remain unpunished for its crimes against the Palestinian People.
We are of the view that Organization of Islamic Cooperation, as the voice of the Islamic Ummah, has a great responsibility and is expected to take efficient and practical measures to force the Zionist Regime of Israel to cease its brutalities against the defenseless people of Palestine, especially through ending the suffering of the people of Gaza. In this regard, we call on the OIC Member States to take appropriate measures in order to prevent any types of normalization with the Israeli regime and preclude utilization by this regime of the troubled circumstances which afflict the Middle East region at the present time,
In conclusion, I would like to once again reiterate our unwavering commitment to just and comprehensive solution to the question of Palestine and to the immediate restoration of the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people, including their right to self-determination and to their independent and viable State of Palestine, with Quds Al Shrif as its capital. Thank you.
