‘Cooperate actively’ with Iran in tackling terrorism, UNSC President Nikki Haley says in a statement
RNA - Council President Nikki Haley, who serves as the US ambassador to the world body, released a statement Monday, asserting that “terrorism in all its forms and manifestations constitutes one of the most serious threats to international peace and security.”
“The members of the Security Council underlined the need to hold perpetrators, organizers, financiers and sponsors of these reprehensible acts of terrorism accountable and bring them to justice and urged all States, in accordance with their obligations under international law and relevant Security Council resolutions, to cooperate actively with the Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran and all other relevant authorities in this regard," she said.
Haley released the statement as Iranian President Hassan Rouhani was in New York for the 73rd annual session of the United Nations General Assembly.
According to Press TV, terrorists opened fire at a crowd of people during a military parade in Ahvaz on Saturday, killing 25 military personnel and civilians — including women and children — and wounding at least 68 others.
“The members of the Security Council condemned in the strongest terms the heinous and cowardly terrorist attack that took place in the Islamic Republic of Iran, in Ahvaz, on 22 September,” read Haley's statement.
Masses of Iranian people and government officials participated in a funeral procession for the victims in Ahvaz on Monday.
Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei has said that Iran will severely punish those “cowardly” elements behind the attack.
