RNA – Speaking during the sixth night of Muharram al-Haram in the southern Lebanese village of Sila’a, Hujjat al-Islam Na’im Qasim, the deputy secretary-general of Lebanon’s Hezbollah Islamic Resistance movement, said some Arab countries presented the worst and most heinous picture of “Arabism” and a despicable image of the Islam ummah and this is while the Islamic Resistance has presented the best images of the victories, dignities and glories of the Islam ummah.
The revered Lebanese cleric that the danger of Palestinian refugees residing outside of their homeland permanently hasn’t been exaggerated but rather this has now become a reality. “The President of the United States, Donald Trump, unanimously with Arab countries, have decided to allow these refugees to reside [outside of Palestine] permanently,” he added.
Hujjat al-Islam Qasim continued, “Israeli greed in the region has no limits. This regime is greedy for Lebanon’s gas, oil, water, and soil in the Shebaa Farms and Kfar Shuba and besides this, Israeli fighters violate Lebanese airspace every day and we continue to be in a state of war with the Israeli regime.”
Tweeting on September 11th, Yisrael Katz, Israel’s Minister of Intelligence, welcomed Trump’s plan to resettle Palestinian refugees in Jordan, Syria, Lebanon and Iraq and claimed, “The refugee problem was perpetuated by Arab and Palestinian leaders as a lever to bring about the unjust demand for ‘the right of return’ an attempt to bring about the destruction of Israel and it is good that it disappears from the world.”
On Wednesday, Katz hailed Trump’s decision to close the Palestine Liberation Organization’s office in Washington.
“This decision joins the decision to recognise Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and the decision to stop funding the [United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East] UNRWA, which is an organisation that perpetuates the refugees’ pretend right of return,” Katz said.
“All these steps reach the roots of the conflict and tell Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas that he cannot continue his double-talk,” he added.
Riyadh al-Maliki, the Foreign Affairs Minister of the Palestinian National Authority, stated that no country is willing to permanently settle the Palestinian refugees and stressed that any program would fail in this regard.
Speaking to the Palestinian Broadcasting Corporation (PBC), he said, “The permanent resettlement plan proposed by the United States won’t be successful because it isn’t an impartial decision and conflicts with international legal decisions. The host countries of the Palestinian refugees, including Jordan, Syria, and Lebanon, reject any thinking on settlement.”
Lebanon is currently home to roughly 590,000 Palestinian refugees (out of some five million worldwide), according to official Lebanese figures.
