Imam Musa Sadr

RNA – Hujjat al-Islam Aref Ebrahimi, a scholar and researcher in the Islamic Seminary of Qom, wrote a brief overview of the various dimensions of Imam Sayyid Musa al-Sadr’s life and referred to the reasons for why this great man belonged to all eras.

Imam Musa al-Sadr is a Lebanese-Iranian philosopher and Shi’ah religious leader from a long line of distinguished clerics tracing their ancestry back to Jabal Amel in southern Lebanon. Born in Qom, Iran, he underwent both seminary and secular studies in Iran.

August 31st is the fortieth anniversary of the abduction of this learned mujtahid and religious-political leader of Lebanon, who, along with Shaykh Muhammad Yaqoub and Abbas Badruddin, mysteriously disappeared after being kidnapped following a meeting with former Libyan dictator, Muammar al-Qadhafi.

Many oral and written texts have explained the lifestyle of Imam al-Sadr but the issue that has been focused on or discussed less in the past forty years is the opinions, thinking and the future of this great personality.

By examining the ocean of ideas and thoughts of Imam al-Sadr, firstly, we find that this ocean has no limits or boundaries such that future generations can easily benefit from them. Secondly, we deal with the following issues, each of which are worthy of a thorough review and discussion and books and articles can be written in relation to them.

Fighting against deprivation, the preservation of the national unity of Lebanon, the promotion of a peaceful life among different Lebanese people, social justice, resistance against the occupation of the Zionist regime, the belonging of Lebanon to all its people, the promotion of the status and identity of the Shi’ah, the emphasis on the unity between Muslims and Christians, simple living and his popularity are some of the features and thoughts of Imam al-Sadr which Christians, Muslims, both Shi’ah and Sunni, have admitted to.

If we use and address these issues in the life of Imam al-Sadr in any era, we can remove the many stones that enemies have placed on the path of the progress and the development of the status of the countries of the region, the Arab and Islamic ummahs.

The purpose of this article is to examine some of the components of the life of Imam al-Sadr and its adaptation to the current era. Therefore, in the first section, we refer to the issue of the elimination of deprivation.
