Rasa - The US, Britain and France are well aware that the Syrian army is not able to carry out any chemical attack, and that the government of President Bashar al-Assad does not seek to use such a banned weapon against its own people, says an academic.

RNA - “They (the Western powers) know Syria can’t perform a chemical attack nor would Bashar al-Assad have any reason to do so,” James H. Fetzer, professor emeritus at the University of Minnesota Duluth, said on Friday.

He said Syria has no chemical weapons. Besides it has essentially won the war and there is no reason for it to use such weapons.

Fetzer said Russia had gathered evidence showing that it had been the foreign-backed militants, and not the Syrian government, who carried out such crimes in the war-torn country.

“It is insulting that these aggressor nations (US, UK, France) are trying to deceive the world again with a whole game that has been overplayed. It is a shameful performance by the Western powers,” he said.

According to Lebanon-based Arabic-language al-Mayadeen television news network, foreign-backed terrorists have kidnapped 20 children from the city of Jisr al-Shughur in Syria’s northwestern province of Idlib over the past weeks to use them in a possible chemical attack.
