RNA - WAFA correspondent said more than 200 extremist Israeli settlers broke into the holy mosque in groups, pointing that the number may increase during the day hours.

In the meantime, Israeli police deployed heavily at the gates leading to the holy compound and searched the identity cards of the Muslim worshipers before allowing them entry to the compound.

In recent days, Jewish “Temple Mount” organizations called upon their fans to enter Al-Aqsa Mosque to perform rituals on the occasion of the so-called “Destruction of the temple” anniversary.

In late 2015, repeated incursions into the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound by Jewish settlers and Israeli security personnel sparked months-long tensions in the occupied Palestinian territories.
