Such a brutal and criminal campaign against the people of Gaza is allowed to persist by the international community's inaction and American collusion with the military occupation. The targeting of public places and playgrounds constitutes a war crime and violates international law and international humanitarian law,” Ashrawi said in a statement, Middle East News reported.
“As long as the world remains silent, Israel's systematic campaign of brutalizing and terrorizing innocent Palestinians will only continue,” she stated.
“We urge all members of the international community, as well as all relevant organizations, to intervene immediately and to exhibit the moral and political courage necessary to put an end to Israel's unlawful and immoral behavior and to adopt punitive measures and sanctions. Failure to provide protection for the Palestinian people will lead to further escalation and result in more bloodshed," the official added.
15-year-old Amir al-Nimra and 16-year-old Lu’ai Kahil were killed and at least 15 others were wounded by Israeli aircraft bombing of Al Katiba headquarters area in Central Gaza City Saturday afternoon, the Palestinian Ministry of Health announced.
According to Fars News Agancy, Gaza has been under Israeli siege since June 2007, causing a decline in living standards as well as unprecedented unemployment and poverty.
Israel has also launched several wars on the Palestinian sliver, the last of which began in early July 2014 and ended in late August the same year. The Israeli military aggression killed nearly 2,200 Palestinians, including 577 children, and injured over 11,100 others.
The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has stated that children in the Gaza Strip are the main victims of Israeli atrocities, where some 1.8 million people are living under a crippling blockade.
