RNA - Larijani made the remarks in Tehran on Sunday afternoon in a meeting with outgoing Qatari Ambassador to Iran Ali bin Hamad al-Sulaiti.

He also condemned the Saudi-led siege on Qatar as a wrong move, and said that regional problems should be resolved through dialogue.

“Foreign powers should not be allowed to interfere in regional affairs to be able to get regional nations stuck in their plots,” he said.

Sulaiti, for his part, appreciated the Iranian nation and government, saying that his country is grateful to Tehran for not leaving it alone when a siege was imposed on it.

The next ambassador will also seek to help promote ties in political and economic arenas, he added.

According to Fars News Agancy, Saudi Arabia and its allies, including the UAE, Bahrain and Egypt severed ties with Qatar in early June 2017 over charges that it supports terrorism. They have accordingly imposed a land, sea and air blockade against Qatar thus leaving only a sea and air corridor open with Iran.

This created a rise in Iran’s exports – particularly fruits and vegetables – to Qatar over the past months. Iran has also become a corridor for exports of other countries to the blockaded Persian Gulf state.
