RNA - The Syrian government is about to complete its efforts to restore Syrian sovereignty in the most significant areas of the country. War-party Washington and the mere extras should do the next best thing: Respect Syrian sovereignty, acknowledge their years of disastrous mistakes, and pack up and leave. They know, and the whole world knows, that further military intervention, occupation and terror support on the pretext of so-called “democratic campaign” will only drift the war-torn country toward more chaos and aggression, hence destabilizing the entire region for many more years.
We all know how the allied forces of Syria, Iran, Russia and Hezbollah drove the last army of foreign-backed terror groups from Eastern Ghouta, the Damascus suburb where scores of innocent civilians were held prisoners by the death cults, forced into basements, or shot if they used internationally agreed escape corridors. We also know how the desperate terror groups staged an alleged gas attack to offer a perfect justification for an illegal show of US, French, and British missiles that criminally followed. But we also know that Eastern Ghouta is now free of America’s favourite terror proxies and radicals. It is returned to government control, calm for the first time in seven years.
True, the Syrian forces now plan to accomplish to the south what they recently finished in Eastern Ghouta - cleaning out remnants of terror groups of various names and ever-shifting loyalties. This operation is proceeding gradually but steadily, and it will succeed too, because it has international support and because the idea is not chaos and military aggression against civilians. The plan is to tell the world community that Syria can take care of itself and there is no need for further foreign occupation and mayhem.
Further still, “fakestream” media outlets in the region and the West don’t need to claim that the Syrian forces advancing towards the southwestern Syria borders of Jordan and the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights could trigger a new war with Israel and the United States. These forces are not there to attack Israel in an expanded conflict. They are moving toward these borders to finish off the remaining terror proxies and to restore national sovereignty.
Lest we forget, it was in the southwest, notably in the Dara’a governorate, that the CIA internationalized the conflict in its early stages by using Jordan as a conduit to arm ISIL and Qaeda-allied terror groups; the region has been a terrorist stronghold ever since. Once Damascus regains control in the southwest, as now appears almost certain, the region will no longer be available as the vestibule through which Washington and Tel Aviv conduct an important part of their military aggression against Syria that we all know once destabilised the entire planet.
Mind you, the southwest of Syria is covered by a de-escalation agreement signed a year ago too. This accord, like all others, exempts militias fielded by ISIL, Nusra Front, the Army of Islam, or any such terrorist groups, whose names and allegiances are frequently in flux. The southwestern governorates are thick with such terrorist groups aligned with ISIL and Al–Qaeda: This was recently confirmed by the Institute for the Study of War – a conservative Washington think tank.
According to Fars News Agancy, the think tank – like many international aid groups and human rights agencies – reports that the US and Israel have knowingly and deliberately supported these “moderate” goons from day one in their destructive campaign, now seven years running, to destabilize Syria and affect regime change in Damascus.
Anyone who has trouble with this reality, blurred as it is in the Western press reports, should look at the terrible humanitarian situation in Yemen – where the United States, Israel, Saudi Arabia and their proxies have been butchering millions of besieged civilians since March 2015 similarly to affect regime change in Sana’a. Obviously, Washington, Tel Aviv and Riyadh prefer failed states, unstable neighbours and convenient buffer zones because that’s the only way they can continue to exist and execute their expansionist regional designs.
Nevertheless, the international civil society needs to pay attention to Syria again. As per international law and the UN Charter, the Syrian government has every right to dislodge the remnants of terrorist groups from its territory. Under the same law and Charter, the Syrian army can and should seek help from the international civil society to make this new effort, including from Iran and Russia. This is all happening within the Syrian borders, therefore, there is no need for uninvited and unwanted guests like the US and company to hamper such legitimate efforts. Instead, they must close up their regime-change shop and leave.
In summation, the terror groups hiding in and terrorizing the region have so far refused to countenance any peace terms Damascus has proposed. International talks have equally failed to yield a result. It is amid this forlorn expectation that the Syrian army is preparing a new operation to liberate the terror-held region. It did the same thing in Eastern Ghouta when various terror groups either refused to negotiate or broke whatever agreements reached. Post-ISIL Syria needs to finish off these terrorists and to immediately rebuild itself with international aid and support. On balance, this is also what the purpose of the United Nations is: To protect the essential sovereignty of nations, large and small, including Syria.
