RNA - "This year, the international Quds day rallies will be held under such conditions that we are witnessing the failure of the plots hatched with the help of the ISIL and other terrorist groups created by the US, the Zionist regime and their regional sponsors and the most important safe zone of the Zionist regime has this year been destroyed due to decreasing tensions in Syria and the Muslim world and the new conditions created to support the Palestinian nation," Sharif, who is also the head of the Intifada and Quds Headquarters, told reporters in Tehran on Saturday.

He added that all clashes and terrorist groups, including al-Qaeda, the ISIL and al-Nusra Front (also known as Fatah al-Sham Front or the Levant Liberation Board), are the result of the existence of the Zionist regime in the region, saying, "If one day humanity witnesses annihilation of the Zionist regime, tranquility will prevail over the world again."

According to Fars News Agancy, the International Quds Day was started by the late Founder of the Islamic Republic, Imam Khomeini, in 1979 as a way of expressing solidarity with the Palestinians and underscoring importance of the holy Quds to Muslims.

International Quds Day is an annual event opposing Israel's occupation of Beitul-Muqaddas. Anti-Zionist rallies and demonstrations are held on the last Friday of Ramadan in Muslim and Arab countries around the world, and specially in Iran.
