Secretary-General of the Iranian Academy of Sciences:
Rasa – Sayyed Mohammad Hoseyni said, “Unfortunately, from the very beginning of the negotiations, some simple thinkers thought that they would smile and make an agreement while negotiating and the problems of the country would be solved but today they see that not only have no changes been made.”
Sayyed Mohammad Hoseyni

RNA – In an exclusive interview with Rasa News Agency, Mr. Sayyed Mohammad Hoseyni, the secretary-general of the Iranian Academy of Sciences, referred to the withdraw of the United States from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) and stressed that Iran can never place its trust in the commitments of the enemies, saying, “Since the beginning of the agreement, the United States has not complied with its treaties and has repeatedly imposed new sanctions on Iran in violation of [the JCPOA].”

The professor at the University of Tehran added that by imposing a “black hole” of sanctions,  the United States sanctioned companies and legal entities and then warned European companies and banks that they would be sanctioned if they cooperated with Iran and since then some of these companies have been sanctioned by the United States.

Mr. Hoseyni said that the United States’ aim by withdrawing from the JCPOA was to launch psychological warfare against Iran in order to gain more concessions and noted, “The United States is pursuing this important issue by bringing in Europe and raising nuclear issues, the Financial Action Task Force (on Money Laundering) [FATF] and regional issues in Iran in order to gain more concessions.”

He continued, “The United States’ psychological war against Iran is aimed at undermining the morale of endurance among the Iranian people and to give more privileges to the United States. For this reason, despite our domestic economic problems, we are witnessing the plots to create currency fluctuations in Iran by the United States and the Arab reactionary countries, including Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, as well as the threats of the Zionist occupying regime, in order to gain more privileges by creating hopelessness among the Iranian people and exploiting the capacity of some of the domestic opportunists.”

The secretary-general of Iran’s Islamic Academy of Sciences emphasized that the withdrawal of the United States from the JPCOA proved that the enemies never adhered to international obligations, conventions and international law and said, “If an agreement is made between Iran and United States in the future, it is certain that the United States will also violate it and will only seek excesses. Therefore, Iran needs to rely only on its domestic capabilities and its military and security power, otherwise they will be able to increase these pressures to any degree.”

Mr. Hoseyni continued, “Unfortunately, from the very beginning of the negotiations, some simple thinkers thought that they would smile and make an agreement while negotiating and the problems of the country would be solved but today they see that not only have no changes been made, but after the JCPOA they saw some hostile actions against Iran as well. Today, the only way to cope with the excesses of the enemies, is through endurance and reliance on domestic capacities and the implementation of the Resistance Economy. Thus, compromise with the West will not work for us.”

A member of the central council of the Popular Front of Islamic Revolution Forces said, “It is imperative that those politicians who make attractive promises to the people and warned that all affairs that are tied up with the JCPOA apologize to the people because they have delayed the negotiations for several years and the losses and imposed a lot of damages on the country.”

He considered Iran’s withdrawal from the FATF as very important in the current situation, saying, “That today, some say that we will continue the JCPOA with the Europeans and explicitly say that European companies are not under the authority of their governments. They must realize that, for example, if European governments have the will to do business when their companies do not accompany them, what will happen? The companies will take their own interests into consideration and at the crossroads of Iran and the United States, they will certainly choose the United States.”

Mr. Hoseyni said, “Thus, we cannot be optimistic about this issue and Iran must use its own tools and withdrawal from the FATF can be very effective. The Islamic Republic must begin some of its nuclear activities so that the Westerners know that it is a serious matter. Federica Mogherini [the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security] came and said that we ensured that the Iranian president did not leave. This means that we are in a position of weakness and that they will continue in their own way.”
