RNA – Douglas Silliman, the ambassador of the United States to Iraq, met with Hujjat al-Islam Sayyid Ammar al-Hakim, the chairman of the Islamic Supreme Council of Iraq and the head of the National Wisdom Movement, at his office in Baghdad.

Recent national and regional developments as well as Iraq’s upcoming election were among the most important issues that were discussed during the meeting.

“The upcoming election must be held in a sustainable and secure environment and the safety and the transparency of the election must also be taken into consideration to ensure the maximum participation of the Iraqi people so that the results would reflect the true will of the people,” Hujjat al-Islam al-Hakim said.

The head of the Islamic Supreme Council of Iraq also called for decreasing regional tensions which “have never been beneficial to the people of the Middle East” by “inviting all sides to the negotiating table and establishing dialogue regarding the developments in the region.”

The Iraqi cleric and politician added, “The election campaign advertising of the National Wisdom Movement have been made using modern methods. This movement directly communicates with voters and familiarizes them with their electoral campaigns.”

Iraq’s parliamentary elections are scheduled to take place on May 12th in 18 constituencies across Iraq, including areas freed from the occupation of Daesh Takfiri forces.
