RNA - "Iran played the role of a guarantor, ensuring stability in Iraq," Masum said after a meeting with Iranian Supreme Leader's top aide for international affairs Ali Akbar Velayati in Baghdad on Sunday.

"We never forget the Islamic Republic of Iran's valuable military and humanitarian aid to Iraq in the fight against the ISIL terrorist group," he added.

Velayati, for his part, underlined Iran's willingness to witness further territorial integrity in Iraq, adding that the Iraqi president has called for Tehran's constructive role in decreasing tensions between Baghdad and Erbil.

In relevant remarks last Sunday, Iraqi Parliament Speaker Salim Al-Jabouri called for Iran’s contribution to his country’s reconstruction.

According to Fars News Agancy, Al-Jabouri made the remarks in a meeting with Iranian Ambassador to Baghdad Iraj Masjedi in the Iraqi capital.

"Political ties between the two countries have paved the way for boosting of economic ties over the past five years and average trade exchanges between the two nations are increasing everyday," al-Jabouri said.

The Iraqi parliament speaker expressed the hope for further promotion of cooperation with Iran in the scientific and technological fields and Iran’s involvement in his country’s reconstruction.

"Iraq’s friendly countries, including Iran, which played a crucial role in fighting terrorism are welcome and appreciable in the eyes of the Iraqi nation," he said, adding that given numerous commonalities between the two nations, bilateral ties are expected to further improve in all fields.
