Rasa News Agency Reports - The 7th International Conference of Proximity among Islamic Schools of Thought was held on Saturday, September 21, at the Islamic Center of England, IQNA reported.

Entitled “Role of Taghrib (proximity) in Fighting Sectarianism and Supporting the Community”, the conference was attended by Muslim figures, scholars and thinkers from Egypt, Britain, Germany, Lebanon, Algeria, Iraq, Morocco, France, Pakistan, India, Yemen, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Syria, and Tunisia.

The participants issued a statement at the end of the meeting, in which they outlined recommendations for promotion of proximity in the Muslim world.

They said the objectives of proximity will not be realized through speeches and sermons per se, but needs action.

The statement underlined the role of Muslim families, especially women, in promoting the culture of proximity in Islamic communities and recommended organizing a seminar about raising children and enhancing the culture of proximity.

It stressed that Palestine is the number one priority in the Muslim world and that everyone must take a stance against the violations of Palestinian rights by the occupiers.

The participants in the conference also highlighted the role of Muslim governments in fighting sectarianism especially now that the danger of sectarian conflicts has spread in the region and threatens the very foundations of Muslim countries.

They said dealing with this issue requires integrated efforts by people and governments of Muslim countries.

They also said they would welcome any recommendations or any steps that could help to strengthen unity among Muslims.
