Rasa - Al-Wefaq Secretary-General Sheikh Ali Salman said in a phone call with his family on that he did not know there was a trial set for him before contacting his family.

RNA - He added that he knew nothing about the date of the trial before the phone call, Bahrain Mirror reported.

 

The Public Prosecution had announced the referral of Sheikh Ali Salman to trial over charge of colluding with Qatar and set November 27 a date for his trial. However, Sheikh Salman denied the charge brought against him.

 

The Bahraini Public Prosecutor's Office added in a statement that Salman, would be tried alongside two of his colleagues, Hassan Sultan and Ali Mahdi.

 

“The prosecution has referred the case in which Ali Salman, Hassan Sultan and Ali Mahdi are accused of spying for the state of Qatar to the High Criminal Court,” the state prosecution said in a Twitter posting.

 

On November 1, the trio was charged with “spying on behalf of a foreign country ... with the aim of carrying out subversive acts against Bahrain and harming its national interests.”
