RNA – In an interview with Rasa News Ageny, Abdul-Ghani Khanjir, a political campaigner and spokesman for the Bahraini Rights Movement, referred to the dissolution of the National Democratic Action Society (Wa’ad) and said, “The main impetus that made the Al Khalifah regime dissolve the political societies is that they weren’t ready to submit to the commands, orders and demands of the Al Khalifah and as a result, the regime imposed a number of punishments on revolutionary societies and Bahraini human rights organizations to force them to take steps in the desired direction of the regime and to turn them from a revolutionary society to a neutral society so they can easily continue to repress and aggress them.”
He added, “To this day, all these actions have been defeated and the Al Khalifah failed to achieve its goals. Initially, they attempted to endorse the Islamic Action Society (Amal) but once they failed, they dissolved this revolutionary society. Then they turned to the al-Wefaq National Islamic Society but they were also unable to placate this society to stop its revolutionary actions so they inevitably detained the leaders of al-Wefaq and dissolved the society. This time, it was Wa’ad’s turn when Ibrahim Sharif, the secretary-general of Wa’ad, was arrested and told them ‘you’re either against us or you expel all political groups from the political scene.’”
Referring to the resistance of the Wa’ad Society and against the excesses of the Al Khalifah, Khanjir pointed out, “This revolutionary society rejected the request of Al Khalifah to compromise and stop its activities, which led the Al Khalifah dictatorship to eventually order the dissolution of the society. The sinister Al Khalifah regime has repeatedly tried to attract the leaders of revolutionary societies toward them or replace them with their affiliates but they weren’t able to achieve this result and so they turned to repression, arrest, imprisonment, the denial of citizenship and the exile of the opposition to destroy any opposition in the country.
The spokesman for the Bahraini Rights Movement referred to the political failures of the Al Khalifah and said, “It cannot be said that the dissolution of the Wa’ad Society was a new political disaster for the Al Khalifah as in fact, the failures and political defeats of the Al Khalifah began when they started plotting against societies, parties and revolutionary and legal organizations and they will go even further. They seek to prove to everyone that, given the current context of the region, all events are in their favour and in the direction of strengthening their political actions. No human rights organization will act against them and the Al Khalifah will continue their path.”
In another part of his speech, the Bahraini political campaigner explained the recent statements made by the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, Muhammad ibn Salman, wherein his said that he wanted the Wahhabi kingdom to return to “moderate” Islam, saying, “I don’t think that real change or reform has occurred. Yes, though, actions such as giving women permission to drive a car has been given with certain conditions but these aren’t real changes. In fact, ibn Salman seeks to make the world aware that he wants to fight extremism through these changes but whoever observes the events in Saudi Arabia doesn’t pay attention to such remarks. The problems that Saudi Arabia is dealing with today testifies to the fact that they are seeking to engage in public opinion on marginal issues so that they don’t have to mention their recent failures in the region.
Khanjir pointed out that with the defeat of the Saudis in Syria and Iraq, as well as their plunge into the Yemeni quagmire and the killing of thousands of innocent Yemeni children, women and elders, the true image of the Al Saud has been demonstrated to the world. This real face appears in regard to these failures and if these failures didn’t exist, today their territory and dominance over the region would have expanded vastly.
“The Al Saud has a great appetite for increasing its influence over the entire Muslim world and, in order to achieve this goal, they have acted in such a manner with their neighbouring countries, such as Qatar, and have even sought to impose regime change on these countries,” he said.
