RNA - "Saudi Arabia's approach on the war in Syria and Yemen has changed and he is attempting to come out of the quagmire of these wars with the help of Russia and forming a new coalition," Atwan wrote on Saturday.

"Saudi Arabia wants Russia's cooperation to find a political solution to the war in Yemen," he added.

The visit also showed that Saudi Arabia has changed its position after Iran and its allies won the upper hand in the war against terrorists in the region, the catastrophic war in Yemen and Riyadh's distrust of the US, Atwan underlined.

Russian President Vladimir Putin hosted US ally King Salman of Saudi Arabia for talks at the Kremlin this week, possibly signaling a shift in Middle East politics.

Salman, the first sitting Saudi monarch ever to visit Russia, led a delegation to Moscow bringing with him investment deals worth several billion dollars.

Saudi Arabia said it signed a memorandum of understanding on the purchase from Russia of S-400 air defense systems. That marked a shift for the kingdom, which buys most of its military supplies from the United States and Britain.
