RNA - The ministry said in a statement that members of the terrorist cell were killed by security forces, Shafaghna reported.

In a preventive operation, the counter-terrorism forces of the country managed to identify and kill the terrorists who intended to carry out a suicide attack in Kadhimiya on Ashura, the tenth day of the lunar Hijri month of Muharram when a large number of Shiite pilgrims converge on the holy city to hold mourning rituals.

Iraq has mobilized all its security and military forces to ensure security during Muharram.

Shiite Muslims, and others in different parts of the world, hold ceremonies every year in the month of Muharram to mourn the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussein (AS) and his faithful companions.

Imam Hussein (AS) and his companions were martyred in the Battle of Karbala on the Day of Ashura in the year 680 AD.
