RNA - In a statement released on Friday, Hezbollah offered condolences over the martyrdom of dozens of Iraqi nationals and several Iranian pilgrims in the terrorist attacks, and prayed for immediate recovery of the injured, the Arabic-language al-Ahed news website reported.
“This crime is in continuation of the massacre and destruction caused by terrorist groups in Iraq and the entire the region in line with their corrupt beliefs…,” the statement added.
The Lebanese movement also called for all-out and serious efforts to combat terrorism and eradicate Takfiri groups in the region.
According to a media reports, at least 74 people, including eight Iranian pilgrims, were killed and about 100 others were wounded when Daesh militants carried out a coordinated attack targeting a security checkpoint and a restaurant in the south of Iraq on Thursday.
Daesh claimed responsibility, saying it targeted Shiites in the outskirts of Nasiriya city in the south of Iraq, according to a Daesh statement circulating on Daesh telegram channels.
An armed attack on a restaurant was followed by a car bomb and a suicide bomber at a nearby checkpoint, a police statement said.
Security officials foiled a Daesh attack on a second restaurant nearby, but several security officials were killed and wounded in the exchange of fire.
Iraqi security officials killed six of the attackers, the statement added.
