RNA - "The Syrian army and popular forces and the resistance have gained great victories and we hope that this trend will continue and lead to final victory," Larijani said at a meeting with Syrian Prime Minister Imad Khamis in Tehran on Sunday.
"The Islamic Republic of Iran will always remain a supporter of the Syrian nation and government and we hope that the Astana talks arrive at the desired result so that we can witness establishment of peace in the region as soon as possible," he added.
Khamis, for his part, blasted the US, Israel and Saudi Arabia for their role in disturbing regional tranquility, and said, "They sowed the seed of terrorism and created such a crisis and they are after destabilizing the region but we will not allow them to attain their goals."
He expressed the hope that Saudi Arabia would stop cooperation with Israel and the US and think more of tranquility in the region.
In relevant remarks earlier today, Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Ali Shamkhani in a meeting with Khamis hailed continued all-out efforts to liberate the territories occupied by the terrorists in Syria, and stressed the need for blocking financial and arms aid to the terrorists and holding Syrian-Syrian talks to reach a national consensus.
"If the other sides end their financial, technical and arms supports for the terrorists, tranquility will return to the region in a short period of time and consequently to the European countries and we will witness establishment of security and full annihilation of terrorism instead of the flood of refugees, violence and destruction of the World Heritage," he said.
"The Islamic Republic of Iran is standing beside Syria and will continue its supports until the security crisis ends in the country," Shamkhani added.
