RNA - "Tehran will continue its backing for the Axis of Resistance in the ongoing fight against the Zionist regime's aggression," Amir Abdollahian said in a meeting with Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri in Beirut on Tuesday.

The Iranian parliament speaker's advisor, meantime, felicitated the concurrency of Arsal liberation against the Takfiri terrorism with anniversary of Lebanon's victory in the 33-day resistance against the Zionist regime's aggression in 2006.

“Lebanon has taken major steps in fighting the Zionist regime and Takfiri terrorism and was successful in defending its independence and territorial integrity,” he noted.

Amir-Abdollahian praised the role of Berri and other Lebanese leaders in completing the political process and agreeing on the election law, calling it a sign of correct understanding and insight of the Lebanese officials.

He underlined that Iran will continue its effective support for Lebanon’s Resistance in the fight against Zionist regime’s aggressions and terrorism.

Pointing to US unconstructive and interventionist role in the region, Amir Abdollahian said the White House only cares about the security of Tel Aviv and its political, cultural, and economic exploitation.

He pointed to the developments in Syria, Lebanon, Libya and Yemen, and urged the need for maintaining territorial integrity and national unity of the countries of the region.

Berri, for his part, expressed gratitude to Iran's efforts and assistance, and said, "The situation in the region remains sensitive, and after the recent victories against terrorism, we must be cautious about the plots hatched by the enemies of the Islamic world and, in the shadow of Islamic unity, we should disappoint the Zionists and terrorists."

Berri pointed to the ongoing events in al-Aqsa Mosque and Israel’s aggression and violence against Palestinian people, and underlined the importance of resistance against Tel Aviv.

Nabih Berri also explained his views on some regional and international developments and called for continued parliamentary and political consultations between the two countries.

In relevant remarks last week, Iran's Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations Eshaq Ale'habib underlined that all the crises in the Middle East emanate from Israel and its allies.

"Numerous assaults on the Palestinian land and repeated violations of the UN resolutions by the Zionist regime make the regime as main source of all crises in the Middle East," Ale'habib said, addressing a meeting of the UN Security Council.

Al-Habib said since 1948, the Zionist regime has invaded its neighbors 14 times and suppressed the Palestinians violently with the support of the US; the recent prohibition on Palestinians entry to al-Aqsa Mosque is an instance of illegal measures taken by the Zionists.

Referring to violation of many UN resolutions by the Zionists, Ale'habib said there is a lot of evidence concerning Zionists' aggressive policies, apartheid, and war crimes in the reports of the United Nations.

He said that settlement construction for the Zionists in the Occupied Territories is violation of Geneva's Fourth Convention, adding the routine of the Zionist regime shows that it has never been looking for peace and has participated in the negotiations to buy time to follow its expansionism and aggression.

The UNSC opposed the settlement construction on 23 December 2016 (Resolution 2334), but the Zionist regime rejected it and announced that it will go on with the reconstructions.

UNSC Resolution 2334 concerns the Israeli settlements in 'Palestinian territories occupied since 1967, including East Quds. The resolution passed in a 14–0 vote by members of the UNSC. Four members with UNSC with veto power, i.e. China, France, Russia, and the United Kingdom, voted for the resolution, but the United States abstained.

The resolution explicitly says that Israel's settlement activity constitutes a 'flagrant violation' of international law and has 'no legal validity'. It demands that Israel stop such activity and fulfill its obligations as an occupying power under the Fourth Geneva Convention.
