RNA - “Support for terrorism, including financial assistance, albeit being perilous to us over the past decades, has affected its sponsors as well," Larijani said.

He reiterated that certain countries' support for terrorism is not a matter of the recent one or two years; it has been for decades that big powers and some regional countries have been using pressure and terrorism against Iran.

"Such measures did not affect the Islamic Republic, because we aptly managed and resolved these problems with appropriate decisions," Larijani added.

In relevant remarks on Monday, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani underlined the necessity for collective efforts to uproot terrorism in the region and the world, warning supporters of terrorist groups that they will backfire on them in future.

"Any country, power and superpower which thinks that terrorism is an instrument to implement its policies in the region and the world is fully mistaken," President Rouhani said, addressing a forum in Tehran.

Stressing that terrorism will harm everyone, even its advocates, he said, "We should put our hands together and resolve this big problem in the region.

"No policy in the region and the world will succeed unless it is a win-win policy. If anyone thinks that he/she can meet his/her interests by destroying others' interests, he/she is certainly mistaken even though it is the US," Rouhani underscored.

In relevant remarks in May, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif warned the sponsors of extremist groups and violence in the region against their instrumental use of terrorists and extremists to attain their goals, warning that their policy will backfire in future.

"Iran and Afghanistan are located in a dangerous region which is witnessing extremist moves due to the strangers' measures and certain attempts are still being made in this regard. But this violence will backfire on those who have provoked it," Zarif said in a joint press conference with his Afghan counterpart Salahuddin Rabbani in Kabul.

He called for an indiscriminate collective fight against the violent and extremist groups and those who support them.

Reiterating Iran's support for the Afghan people in all fields on the international scene, Zarif said, "We are glad to have partnered in the creation of the new Afghanistan and we will remain beside the Afghan people and government in future too."

His remarks came after former Afghan President Hamid Karzai said the ISIL terrorist group is a product and tool of the United States.

"ISIL is a US product," Karzai said, adding that the group he described as clearly a foreign-backed entity, emerged in 2015 during the US presence.

The US must explain routine flights of unmarked helicopters "dropping supplies to the terror faction on the Pakistan and Afghanistan border," said Karzai, who was president from December 2004 to September 2014.
