RNA - "A part of insecurity, instability and poverty in the region is the result of the US policies during the past decades and the US administration should be advised not to step onto a new trap in this regard because finally, its consequences and repercussions will harm the US administration and it should bear the pursuing problems," Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi said on Monday.

He made the remarks, referring to US President Donald Trump's upcoming visit to Saudi Arabia and his call on all Arab leaders to meet him in the country.

Stressing that Iran has adopted a clear foreign policy in the region, Qassemi said, "Iran is a stable country that wants peace, security and campaign against terrorism, and has made efforts more than any other regional country during the past decades, specially in the past few years, to fight against terrorism and extremism."

Trump is set to visit Riyadh later this week and meet with Saudi officials, as well as 56 Arab leaders.

According to a senior White House official, Trump will discuss how to counter the threat from ISIL militants, the Saudi war in Yemen and threats of ballistic missiles and maritime shipping in the Red Sea.

Also on the agenda will be a discussion on the Syrian conflict amid recent calls for "de-escalation zones" to provide safe havens for Syrian refugees.

There are also expected to be talks on Iran between Trump and Saudi officials.

The United States is close to completing a series of arms deals for Saudi Arabia totaling more than $100 billion, the White House official also said, adding that the arms package could end up tripling in a decade to help Saudi Arabia boost its defensive capabilities.
