RNA - At the marquee event, the Peoples Climate March in Washington, D.C., approximately 150,000 to 200,000 people made their way down Pennsylvania Avenue on their way to encircle the White House. On Trump's 100th day as president of the United States, thousands of people gathered in cities around the country and around the world to protest his alarming views on climate change.
The event was held one day after Trump’s Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) removed several pages related to climate change from its website.
Participants Saturday announced that they object to [Donald] Trump's rollback of restrictions on mining, oil drilling and greenhouse gas emissions at coal-fired power plants, among other things. US President has called climate change a hoax, disputing the overwhelming consensus of scientists that the world is warming and that man-made carbon emissions are primarily to blame.
The demonstrations came one week after supporters of science gathered in 600 cities around the globe, alarmed by political and public rejection of established research on topics including climate change and the safety of vaccines.
During those first 100 days, the Environmental Protection Agency has moved swiftly to roll back [Barack] Obama-era regulations on fossil fuels while also facing significant planned budget cuts.
The protest continues the trend of heightened liberal activism since Trump's election, best seen in the Women's March in January and the protests at airports to combat the administration's travel ban.
