RNA - The municipality of Molenbeek-Saint-Jean, one of 19 municipalities comprising the Brussels capital region, reportedly adopted by a large majority a new motion intended to safeguard human rights and the application of international law in the field of public procurement, WAFA reported.
The motion, adopted Wednesday evening, stipulates that the municipality would exclude firms that were not complying with international law, including firms contributing to the Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories, from public procurement tenders.
The Palestinian Mission commended the municipality’s motion as signaling the municipality’s “support for the Palestinian people’s resistance to ongoing violations committed by Israel, the occupying power, and Israel’s refusal to implement UN resolutions related to the Palestinian question.”
It also commended the motion as a “courageous step that reflects the municipality’s solidarity and friendship with the Palestinian people.”
