RNA - "The attempts to create hostility between Iran and Iraq have led to stronger relations between the two neighboring countries," al-Abadi said in a meeting with Iranian Ambassador to Iraq in Baghdad on Monday.

The Iraqi prime minister appreciated Iran's support of Iraq in the fight against the terrorist groups and the ISIL, and said, "Although terrorists were after causing strife in Tehran-Baghdad ties, their measures have strengthened and deepened bilateral ties between the two sides.”

Al-Abadi called for the removal of certain barriers hindering the broadening of relations between the two countries, and urged Tehran and Baghdad to expand their relations in the areas like economy, joint investment and job creation.

The Iranian ambassador, for his part, stressed the need to investigate venues for reinvigoration of relations between Iran and Iraq in view of their great potentials.

Iraj Masjedi had arrived in Baghdad last Tuesday and met with Iraqi Foreign Minister Ibrahim Jafari the day after.

On Monday, Iran's ambassador also held talks with Iraq's Parliament Speaker Salim Jabouri.

In relevant remarks last week, Masjedi renewed Iran's support for the Iraqi government and nation in their ongoing fight against the terrorist groups.

"Iran wants an advanced, powerful, secure and integrated Iraq and given this policy Iran will stand by Iraq under any condition," the Iranian ambassador said.

"We should do our best to improve the relations between the two countries," Masjedi added.

Brigadier General Iraj Masjedi, a senior advisor to the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Quds Force Commander Major General Qassem Soleimani, arrived in Baghdad on Tuesday as Iran's new ambassador to Iraq.
